I woke early to the news of the shootings in Atlanta that killed eight humans last night. Six Asian, Seven women. The perpetrator fired into massage parlors.
Massage parlors. Where people are given touch, intimacy. Where you lie your head down to sink into yourself. Where a massage worker cares for your body and tries to heal it. Where a worker is doing a job to support themselves, their family, wherever the family may be.
He shot a gun into a place of care.
Not a religious space, but certainly a sacred space.
Because a sacred space is where you feel cared for, where you let yourself be vulnerable, and where you connect to your body, your breath, your Chi...
Where you feel human and humbled.
Mercy Mistress has been selected to view at the 42nd Asian American International Film Festival in NYC. Festival runs from July 25-August 3rd. The line up of films is incredible-- comedy, documentary, feature movies. I'm especially excited to see In a New York Minute, Lucky Grandma, Ugly Model, Happy Cleaners, Go Back to China, and the LGBTQIA shorts, which includes a film by the phenomenally talented Jess X Snow.
MercyMistress will screen with episodic shorts on July 30th. More information about the AAIFF can be found HERE.

Tristan Taormino is famous for her books on expertise of anal sex and pleasure. However, her work in sex education extends far and wide. Taormino's current podcast, Sex Out Loud, in which she interviews other educators and activists in sex positive industries is one of my favorites. I recommend listening to the episodes with Kink Doctor, Dulcinea Pitagora, as well as with sex work activist & writer, Antonia Crane. To listen to my chat with Taormino, click button below.
We talk about the making of Mercy Mistress, my current work with Red Canary Song, Kink Out Events, and ritual work.
