With heavy hearts, we call our community together to mourn the eight lives lost during the shooting on Tuesday night in Atlanta. As we pay honor to the individual victims and send our support to the survivors, it is undeniable that this was a targeted violence against Asian Women Massage Workers.
As Asian massage and sex workers, we wish to hold a space of radical love and healing for our shared communities. Please come to the vigil with a candle. Featuring speakers from Red Canary Song, Butterfly Toronto, Asian American Feminist Collective, 18 Million Rising, and more.

I woke early to the news of the shootings in Atlanta that killed eight humans last night. Six Asian, Seven women. The perpetrator fired into massage parlors.
Massage parlors. Where people are given touch, intimacy. Where you lie your head down to sink into yourself. Where a massage worker cares for your body and tries to heal it. Where a worker is doing a job to support themselves, their family, wherever the family may be. He shot a gun into a place of care. Not a religious space, but certainly a sacred space. Because a sacred space is where you feel cared for, where you let yourself be vulnerable, and where you connect to your body, your breath, your Chi... Where you feel human and humbled. |
