Date & Time: Thursday, March 9, 2023, 7:00-9:30PM Location: Flushing Town Hall 137-35 Northern Blvd, Queens, NY 11354 Celebrating the premiere of Fly in Power, a documentary film centering the issues of Asian migrant massage and sex workers.
***WATCH OUR FLY IN POWER TRAILER*** Fly in Power’s first-ever screening is taking place at Flushing Town Hall Theater in Queens, with speeches and statements by Esther K (Red Canary Song, Sex Worker Project), NY Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas, sponsor for Bill A8281 (Massage License Decriminalization Act), and a talk-back with the film’s creators and crew. Co-directed by Red Canary Song (RCS) members Yoon Grace Ra and Yin Q, Fly in Power centers Asian migrant massage and sex workers issues. This is the first film to center the narrative of an Asian massage worker in her own words, with her own agency of storytelling and editing. The documentary follows Charlotte, with conversations by Khokoi, Prof. Elena Shih, and other RCS members. The intention of Fly in Power is to honor their practices of care, autonomy, and survival and to raise awareness of the oppressive systems that face us all. *This film has been produced entirely by women, non-binary, trans and queers of the Asian diaspora-- more than half of the production team are former sex workers. **The production of this film has been generously supported by donations from our community and grants from Asian Womens Giving Circle and NYWFT. ***FIP team: Yoon, Yin Q, hang, Kai & Meng; Music: Melanie & Jared; Art&Design: Ione & Siweon; Event Team: Tiffany & Eli and Stories, Sweat, Tears: Entire RCS Core Collective ❤️
