"One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light but by making the darkness conscious" - Carl Jung
In her blog, Alana Louis May writes how "love and light" have become the New Age catch phrases that are "flung around like some kind of coverall, sweeping whatever has come before it in its passive aggressive fluorescent light." Agreed. There is love, there is light, but only with darkness, shadow, and delicious, powerful wickedness. One should never strive to be just one or the other. Ritual work. It's about taking the light and piercing it into the darkness with needles into flesh. Reveling in the anger and hate, destroying an overgrown forest of resentment, setting it ablaze with light, so that love can bud green under charred earth. Honor thy Shadow.
