Two weeks ago, moderated a panel discussion on Asian American Dominatrixes and Femme Sexuality for Banana Mag at the Wing in the Flatiron.
I'm sharing the discussion topics because I want this conversation to continue in and out of the Asian American Professional Dominatrix realm. If you identify as an Asian American kinkster and/or Femme and if you have the time to answer these questions, please send me your thoughts at YinQuan (at) gmail. I may not have time to answer you, but would like to incorporate other perspectives in my research and writing:
  • Decoding Fact VS Myth:

    • What is working in the Dominatrix industry like in reality VS media perceptions?
    • How does one pursue this type of work, specialize in it and why?
    • Are there any specific misconceptions about the industry that you’d like to address?
  • Challenging Asian American Female Stereotypes:
    • What stereotypes do you encounter, specifically as an Asian American female VS other races and how does your experience differ from other women of different racial backgrounds?
    • Are there differences between Asian American dommes vs. Asian dommes?
    • How do you confront these stereotypes through sex work?
  • Sex, Sexuality, Sex Shaming & Sex Work perceptions in the Asian American Community:
    • How did you discover your sexual identity as an Asian American woman?
    • How is sex work a current feminist issue-- esp within the Asian American feminist movement?
    • What perceptions of sexuality do you witness in the Asian American community about ourselves?
    • What kinds of slut-shaming occur in our households and amongst our own peer?
    • Dominatrixes are in an echelon of privilege of sex work (the “whorarchy) --do you think it’s easier to be out as a dominatrix than an escort, massage worker, stripper? Why?
    • Sex work is often conflated with sex trafficking, thus the Sesta/Fosta bill was passed. How do you see this bill affecting your industry and what do you want people to know about it?

  • What’s Next:
    • What are you doing in your field to change the perception?
    • How can we support and encourage advocacy for sex work and the kink community?
    • What are our next steps?
